MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a breakthrough in medical science, benefitting you and your medical professionals as well. For you, it is an alternative, non-invasive way to see what’s going on inside your body. It requires no pain or incision and does not require the use of radioactive rays. The medical professional working with you then gets an extremely detailed view of what is going on in your body and can help pinpoint tumors, heard disease, and other anomalies that will help with your diagnosis and treatment.

MRI’s are an extreme help with treatment because the accurate and detailed image allows doctors to plan for surgery. MRI scans are painless and have no recovery period after being completed. They are also less likely to produce an allergic reaction.

How Does It Work?

The MRI was originally developed in the 1970’s. This machine uses a combination of magnetic fields and radio waves that create a high-definition image of soft tissues in the body. Soft tissue is mostly made of water, so the magnets on each side of the scanner alter the water’s polarity for the scanner to interpret it. The MRI then creates a layer-by-layer reconstruction of a person’s entire body. Having that image is priceless to doctors—it takes out almost all of the guesswork in diagnostics and allows the doctor to make a clear, informed diagnosis.

What Is It Like to Get an MRI?

Orchard Imaging’s MRI has the largest patient opening in the industry. We know and understand that it can be scary to feel like you are in a tight space. We do everything we can to ensure your experience is a comfortable one from the beginning to the end.
Our MRI has a bed that slowly moves into the MRI as the scan is being complete. We allow patients to listen to the music of their choice and encourage
relaxation during the scan.
Throughout the scan, it’s important to stay as still as possible to ensure the best picture. This can be challenging to many people, especially for some of the
longer scans, which can take up to 30 minutes.
We know it can seem scary to get an MRI, but with the steps we have taken to make the scan as comfortable as possible, it will go by quicker than you think!
Remember: the end result is crucial for your wellbeing and diagnosis, and we’ll be there to help you feel comfortable every step of the way.
